Childhood obesity is a serious problem affecting many families across the globe. For over the past few years alone, there has been rampant increase in the number of children suffering from obesity. The rapid rise in the number of children suffering from obesity simply points out how the condition is slowly becoming a social injustice. Long ago during the times of our grandparents, there are few cases of childhood obesity. During this time obesity was meant to be an old age disease. However things have taken a new direction and currently it is not surprising to find obese children.
There are many factors that are contributing to the rapid increase in childhood obesity. Top on the list is the modern lifestyle. The modern child is used to a more relaxed and inactive lifestyle. Most children living in urban centres are not active. They spend most of the day watching TVs and movies. They also spend most part of their time playing video and computer games. This kind of relaxed lifestyle greatly promotes uncontrolled weight gain thus resulting in obesity. Relaxed lifestyle is one of the primary factors leading to childhood obesity.
Poor feeding habit is another great contributor to overwhelming cases of childhood obesity. The general feeding habit has significantly change d as compared to the days of our grandparents. Currently, children are maintained on fast food diets which are not good for their overall health. The modern child eats more of junky and candy foods which have potential of promoting childhood obesity.
